ESSENTIAL OILS

The benefits of essential oils to animals and humans are limitless and the uses as diverse as the number of beings in the universe

This is an article that I wrote many years ago when I first met Helen Stembridge and Earth Angel Oils for insertion into our Essential Oil Animal Survival Kit. I had not read the article in some time. When I began this arduous (for me) attempt at making a website, I went searching for this article to insert. As I was retyping it (I didn't?t have it saved on my computer it was so long ago), it was totally alien to me. I could not believe I had actually written it. Then I realized how much I had changed. I have to be totally honest with my readers when I tell you that I did change a few words in the original because I just couldn't?t even believe it was me that had written it and did not?t really want to take ownership of it. But, here it is. This is the insertion in the original Animal Survival Kit description of essential oils from years ago with a couple of words changed.

Bennie Jean Kuehnle
The Animal Institute of Holistic Health?

The Animal (and Human) Survival Kit Essential oils are subtle, volatile liquids distilled from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds, found between the cells in droplet form. Essential oils contain hormones, antibiotics, vitamins and antiseptics. They contain oxygenating molecules that transport nutrients to the cells of the body. Without oxygen, cells cannot assimilate nutrients, leaving them depleted and imbalanced. The active ingredient is not removed from the oil so the oil remains balanced and can be used in most situations with virtually no side effects.

HOWEVER, ALL NATURAL OR HOLISTIC REMEDIES SHOULD BE USED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF SOMEONE WHO IS KNOWLEDGEABLE SINCE THERE CAN BE SOME EFFECTS FROM THE RELEASE OF TOXINS FROM THE BODY. THERE ARE ALSO CONDITIONS WHICH CAN CONTRAINDICATE THE USE OF CERTAIN OILS. PLEASE USE WISELY AND UNDER THE ADVICE OF A WISE PROFESSIONAL.

Clinical research has discovered that essential oils help create an environment in the body where disease, bacteria, virus and fungus cannot survive. Every disease has a frequency. A substance with a higher frequency destroys disease of lower frequency. Since essential oils have the highest frequency of any substance, they destroy disease by creating an environment in which the lower frequency cannot live. Essential oils contain a greater frequency than food or herbs.

          EXAMPLE:             FREQUENCY (Hz)

                 Food                                       5-15
                 Dry Herbs                               15-22
                 Fresh Herbs                            20-27
                 Essential Oils                           52-320
                 Health Body                            62-78
                 Disease begins at                     58

There is an enormous difference in oils. High pressure, high temperatures, rapid processing and the use of solvents used to process oils fracture the molecule of the oil that diminishes and destroys the therapeutic value and alters the fragrance. To produce the purest oils, low pressure and low temperatures must be used in the process to retain the ultimate in fragrance and therapeutic value. Oils in their purest form are alive. Oils are antiseptic, anti fungal, detoxifying and revitalizing. The properties of essential oils also assist in regulation of the body systems bringing them into harmony. Oils can be used in so many different ways. Frequent low doses given several times a day are much more effective than one strong dose. Oils can also be used in many diverse ways.

Aromatherapy/Diffusion (External) Inhalation is the most direct form of aromatherapy and is used to influence moods, feelings, states of mind and behavior. The effect of inhalation can be immediate. The olfactory nerve receptors are the only receptors in direct contact with the outside world. Located just beneath the brain, level with the bridge of the nose, these sensitive ?hairs? pick up the fragrance molecules, transporting their message directly to the limbic system, thus bypassing the blood-brain barrier. The limbic system is the cerebral core of emotion and memory, controlling the entire endocrine system of hormones that regulate body metabolism, stress, caloric levels, insulin balance, arousal and more. Different therapies may be accomplished by inhaling through the right or left nostril. He olfactory nerves do not cross over to the opposite side of the brain. Therefore, inhaling through the right nostril affects the right brain, inhaling through the left nostril affects the left brain.

Direct and steam inhalation ? Essential oils may be sprayed in bedding, kennel or stall area, anywhere animal spends time. When used in a diffuser, use only 1-2 hours per day. Also, remember some animals are hypersensitive to odors as well as people, so if you see any signs of sensitivity, discontinue immediately. Use on yourself and animals. Lists of ways to use are listed in articles on Approach and Behavior Modification. Massage - When applied directly, essential oils penetrate the fat layers of the skin very quickly. Used in animal therapy, you can apply to any part of the body where skin is exposed. The oils will be processed by the body, triggering the body?s natural healing process by using essential oils with lymphatic massage to stimulate the flow of blood and lymph.

Baths - When bathing an animal for grooming, add a few drops of the appropriate oil. Oils are wonderful when bathing wounds for its healing properties as listed on page one.

Compresses - Compresses can be used to treat sprains and strains by soaking a cloth in warm water with 5-10 drops of essential oil. Place over treatment area, cover and leave until cold.

Poultices can be used for wounds, healing scar tissue and burns and other injuries and conditions.

Internal ? Hydrosols (All oils are not appropriate for internal use-work with wise and knowledgeable professional) Essential oils may be used in the drinking water. Essential oils may be used to stimulate the Drinking Reflex. Internal (in food). Mixed with normal food, 1-5 drops two to three times a day per issue.

During a crisis, use three to seven days and one a day for about three weeks during the recovery period. Essential oils may be used to complement most other therapies and most essential oils do contraindicate medications that have been prescribed by a veterinarian.

AGAIN, EVEN THOUGH ESSENTIAL OILS ARE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL, NO REMEDY SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED TO HUMAN OR ANIMAL WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU ARE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN EXPERT. ALWAYS BEGIN WITH SMALL DOSES TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN MONITOR ANY SIDE AFFECTS AND INCREASE AS NECESSARY.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR (that would be me): Again, I almost want to scream with apology for my lack of knowledge in only giving this small amount of information and leaving out the truth of the oils. Now, all this information is valid and true, but only surface fluff. Please read on and feel free to leave your comments.

EARTH ANGEL OILS
AND
THE ANIMAL INSTITUTE OF HOLISTIC HEALTH™

Essential oils do not work but simply raise the life force to its natural state of harmony and balance

Essential Oils. Where do I begin. They seem to have become the Alpha and Omega here at The Animal Institute. I am never without my Essential Oil Kit that I can easily carry with me. It is ever on my person. The reasons are too numerous to mention here on this site.

But first, let me say that I use Earth Angel Oils. I know not only where they come from, how they work, the care that goes into their creation and very existence, how they are handled, the love and energy with which they are blended and how the different oils have come to be. I look at it as if when there is a need in the universe, there is always a blessed being that answers. Over these many years that I have used these oils, they have become more and more powerful and an even larger part of my therapy.

When The Animal Institute was in Houston and was part of the animal sanctuary, there was such a great need for healing. The animals that came to us had been damaged by the hands of an inhumane society and not only their physical bodies and their minds had been neglected and abused, but their very souls and spirits. With all the diverse therapies I could offer in the holistic and non-conventional realm combined with some wonderful veterinarians that gave us some great discounts and support, volunteers, students who went above and beyond the normal classroom experience, often making the long trip to help out at the sanctuary and devote their time to specific animals that needed excessive care, the list goes on - when I met Helen and began to experiment with her oils, I found a missing piece. At first, it seemed almost mysterious and other-worldly and yet I began to realize that this was a natural and normal process.

I can compare using real essential oils to the way native peoples see the drum. The drum is such an intergal part of their society, representing the heartbeat of the earth mother, it is the thing the unborn child hears in the womb and the first thing he hears as he is pressed to his mother's breast. And the drum beat follows that human being his entire life and has value in every part. I see essential oils are like that to me. The oils are in every part of our lives. The oils are derived from natural substances (as I have talked about in the previous article) and so we are surrounded from birth I believe with this intimate knowledge of what is necessary for our wellbeing. As with the drum, humans often began to walk a path that leads away from that very thing that gives life and keeps us centered and our spirits aligned with the universe. Pure essential oils vibrate at the highest level and have the ability to raise the vibration of the lower (see the above chart). Scientific research on patients suffering fro many different types of diseases using drumming has proven to increase the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

It is scientifically proven (I thought I would through that in) that essential oils work on all levels. I have reached for an oil in an emergency and used it for a specific purpose only to realize later that in my haste I grabbed the wrong one, but got the desired result. So, it was my intention of the oil, the vibration of my cause created the effect of the oil. What a powerful, yet logical fact. One instance where I use the oil without fail is in approaching animals, especially animals I don't yet know or ones that are injured or in extreme stress or pain. I use the oil first on myself to raise my vibration. Then I use the appropriate oils for whatever outcome I envision for the animal. Using oils on healthy animals has also been an incredible adventure.
