| The benefits of essential oils to animals and humans are limitless and the uses as diverse as the number of beings in the universe |

This is an article that I wrote many years ago when I first met Helen Stembridge and Earth Angel Oils for insertion into our Essential Oil Animal Survival Kit. I had not read the article in some time. When I began this arduous (for me) attempt at making a website, I went searching for this article to insert. As I was retyping it (I didn't?t have it saved on my computer it was so long ago), it was totally alien to me. I could not believe I had actually written it. Then I realized how much I had changed. I have to be totally honest with my readers when I tell you that I did change a few words in the original because I just couldn't?t even believe it was me that had written it and did not?t really want to take ownership of it. But, here it is. This is the insertion in the original Animal Survival Kit description of essential oils from years ago with a couple of words changed.

The Animal (and Human) Survival Kit Essential oils are subtle, volatile liquids distilled from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds, found between the cells in droplet form. Essential oils contain hormones, antibiotics, vitamins and antiseptics. They contain oxygenating molecules that transport nutrients to the cells of the body. Without oxygen, cells cannot assimilate nutrients, leaving them depleted and imbalanced. The active ingredient is not removed from the oil so the oil remains balanced and can be used in most situations with virtually no side effects.
HOWEVER, ALL NATURAL OR HOLISTIC REMEDIES SHOULD BE USED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF SOMEONE WHO IS KNOWLEDGEABLE SINCE THERE CAN BE SOME EFFECTS FROM THE RELEASE OF TOXINS FROM THE BODY. THERE ARE ALSO CONDITIONS WHICH CAN CONTRAINDICATE THE USE OF CERTAIN OILS. PLEASE USE WISELY AND UNDER THE ADVICE OF A WISE PROFESSIONAL.
Clinical research has discovered that essential oils help create an environment in the body where disease, bacteria, virus and fungus cannot survive. Every disease has a frequency. A substance with a higher frequency destroys disease of lower frequency. Since essential oils have the highest frequency of any substance, they destroy disease by creating an environment in which the lower frequency cannot live. Essential oils contain a greater frequency than food or herbs.

There is an enormous difference in oils. High pressure, high temperatures, rapid processing and the use of solvents used to process oils fracture the molecule of the oil that diminishes and destroys the therapeutic value and alters the fragrance. To produce the purest oils, low pressure and low temperatures must be used in the process to retain the ultimate in fragrance and therapeutic value. Oils in their purest form are alive. Oils are antiseptic, anti fungal, detoxifying and revitalizing. The properties of essential oils also assist in regulation of the body systems bringing them into harmony. Oils can be used in so many different ways. Frequent low doses given several times a day are much more effective than one strong dose. Oils can also be used in many diverse ways.
Aromatherapy/Diffusion (External) Inhalation is the most direct form of aromatherapy and is used to influence moods, feelings, states of mind and behavior. The effect of inhalation can be immediate. The olfactory nerve receptors are the only receptors in direct contact with the outside world. Located just beneath the brain, level with the bridge of the nose, these sensitive ?hairs? pick up the fragrance molecules, transporting their message directly to the limbic system, thus bypassing the blood-brain barrier. The limbic system is the cerebral core of emotion and memory, controlling the entire endocrine system of hormones that regulate body metabolism, stress, caloric levels, insulin balance, arousal and more. Different therapies may be accomplished by inhaling through the right or left nostril. He olfactory nerves do not cross over to the opposite side of the brain. Therefore, inhaling through the right nostril affects the right brain, inhaling through the left nostril affects the left brain.
Direct and steam inhalation ? Essential oils may be sprayed in bedding, kennel or stall area, anywhere animal spends time. When used in a diffuser, use only 1-2 hours per day. Also, remember some animals are hypersensitive to odors as well as people, so if you see any signs of sensitivity, discontinue immediately. Use on yourself and animals. Lists of ways to use are listed in articles on Approach and Behavior Modification. Massage - When applied directly, essential oils penetrate the fat layers of the skin very quickly. Used in animal therapy, you can apply to any part of the body where skin is exposed. The oils will be processed by the body, triggering the body?s natural healing process by using essential oils with lymphatic massage to stimulate the flow of blood and lymph.
Baths - When bathing an animal for grooming, add a few drops of the appropriate oil. Oils are wonderful when bathing wounds for its healing properties as listed on page one.
Compresses - Compresses can be used to treat sprains and strains by soaking a cloth in warm water with 5-10 drops of essential oil. Place over treatment area, cover and leave until cold.
Poultices can be used for wounds, healing scar tissue and burns and other injuries and conditions.
Internal ? Hydrosols (All oils are not appropriate for internal use-work with wise and knowledgeable professional) Essential oils may be used in the drinking water. Essential oils may be used to stimulate the Drinking Reflex. Internal (in food). Mixed with normal food, 1-5 drops two to three times a day per issue.
During a crisis, use three to seven days and one a day for about three weeks during the recovery period. Essential oils may be used to complement most other therapies and most essential oils do contraindicate medications that have been prescribed by a veterinarian.
AGAIN, EVEN THOUGH ESSENTIAL OILS ARE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL, NO REMEDY SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED TO HUMAN OR ANIMAL WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU ARE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN EXPERT. ALWAYS BEGIN WITH SMALL DOSES TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN MONITOR ANY SIDE AFFECTS AND INCREASE AS NECESSARY.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR (that would be me): Again, I almost want to scream with apology for my lack of knowledge in only giving this small amount of information and leaving out the truth of the oils. Now, all this information is valid and true, but only surface fluff. Please read on and feel free to leave your comments.
