DUDES AND BUCKAROOS
There are Dudes and Buckaroos
They flash and they have flair
Then there is the Cowboy
Why, you'd hardly know he's there
He's in the mountains trailing cows
Or sorting out the steers
A knowing look upon his face
And wise beyond his years
He wears chinks instead of chaps
And high tops instead of ropers
He don't care much for city life
Small talk or them there dopers
He don't go to many rodeos
Why, it just makes him mad
To see his simple way of life
Turned into a fad
The Cowboy way is changing
With ball caps and designer jeans
So don't be asking a city dude
What cowboying really means
It's hard work from dawn to dark
A cowboy's work is never done
Talking to his horse and God
From sunrise to setting sun
The boss may scream and cuss at him
And he swears he'll draw his pay
But he'd leave them short-handed
So he'll wait till another day
When the cooks in jail with a DUI
And the boss ain't shown up yet
The cavvy found that hole in the fence
And a Norther's fixin' to hit
The dudes and gunzels would head for town
Like they was running for cover
The Cowboy, he would welcome it
Just like it was a lover
He'll round up the herd and put coffee on
Maybe say a cuss word or two
But he'll gather the stock, fix the fence
And catch that old bronc to shoe
Later, he'll sit with his cup of coffee
And wonder if this life he loves best
Is going the way of that old sun
As it slowly disappears in the West
